Watch Your Investment Grow

Unlike a new roof or kitchen, your new landscape installation is not done when our crews have left the job. New landscapes are dynamic installations. They require continuing care and must be monitored for potential problems. While plants can survive on their own, guided care is the difference between a yard full of plants and the great landscape design you imagined.

Your new outdoor spaces deserve to reach the vision laid out in the initial design. Dedicated landscape maintenance programs will help guide your young plants until they've become stable, resilient and mature.

While all homeowners can benefit from our integrated maintenance plans, we especially welcome clients whose new installations will benefit the most from a dedicated maintenance program. The first few seasons following a new installation are the most important in establishing new plants in the landscape.

By immediately giving your new plants guided follow-up care, you're giving your new investment the best chance at long-term success. Why is this so important?

Reinvest
New installations are big investments. Don't let them suffer - you'll get the most for your money by reinvesting in continuing maintenance programs.
Minimize Invaders
New beds offer room for your plants - and weeds - to take root. We'll keep things clean until your plants are strong enough to battle weeds on their own.
Sleep, Creep, Leap
We've all heard this one before. New landscapes come into their own in a few years' time. Continuing care will make sure they reach maturity on schedule.
Right on Schedule
With regular visits, we'll come to know your property and new plants well. Identifying problems areas before they can spread is key to long-term care.

Maintaining new installations is a long-term project, but critical if your new gardens are to reach their full potential.

For existing clients enrolling in a Landscape Maintenance Program with Sylvan Gardens, your new plants will be in the care of the team that installed them in the first place. This ensures familiarity with the grounds and an understanding of the processes and techniques that will protect and improve your new plants.

Most of all, working with us from initial installation to annual maintenance guarantees that the long-term goals of your landscape are served at every stage of the growing process.

Essentials

Get the year started on the right foot. Spring cleanups clear out accumulated winter debris that can slow down the regrowth of perennials and turf. Removing debris is also the quickest way to improve the aesthetic of your home before spring blooms take place.

Clean lines and rich color will provide an aesthetic spark from the moment the work is done. We'll edge your planting beds to create consistent, clean lines that help separate mulch from turf and paved surfaces. Mulch installations provide instant color, as well as help in weed suppression, moisture retention and protection against frost heaving in the winter.

Done in concert with your mulch installation, pre-emergent herbicide is a granular application that provides a layer of weed preventive care before the growing season begins. This quick application helps to block weed germination early in the year, giving your plants another leg up as they look to establish themselves.

A slow-release granular plant fertilizer that is applied at the start of the growing season. An industry-standard mix of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium that serves all plant types well, we apply this long-lived fertilizer early in the year to give your plants a jump start.

A critical step in the establishment of new plantings, we'll provide hand-weeding for new beds where weeds can easily overtake young plants. Our Essentials program provides for four weeding occurrences in a growing season. Herbicide applications may also be scheduled depending on client preference.

Ending the growing season the right way is as important as starting it the right way. Fall cleanups provide for leaf removal, the removal of expired perennials and ornamental grasses and general cleanup of other undesirable material before winter sets in. This is especially important in turf applications, where matted leaves can damage a lawn during winter.

With our Enhanced Maintenance Program, you'll receive annual pruning of all ornamental trees and shrubs on the property. Selective pruning helps establish desirable growth patterns in young trees, while horticulturally-correct pruning practices will help keep your shrubs looking neat and natural.

Perennials bring variety and change to a garden, often several times throughout a growing season. Our perennial care option will provide for deadheading of expired flowers or other perennial maintenance once per growing season, making sure that expired growth doesn't distract from other blooms throughout the garden.
