Rhubarb | Plant Profile

Rhubarb (Rheum palmatum) are bush-like perennials with large leaves and and thick leafstalks. Unlike other cultivars, this variety of Rhubarb is not fit for culinary consumption. However, the large, dark, lobed leaves and red flower plumes are ornamentally valued. The flower plumes consist of clusters of tiny dark red flowers that rise high above the foliage.

Rhubarb prefer fertile, medium moisture, well drained soils in full sun to part shade.

These perennials are large statement pieces that need room to grow. They can be ornamental entryway accents that also provide privacy. Align to create unique borders between yards or along streams.
