Golden Privet ‘Vicaryi’ | Plant Profile

Golden Privet ‘Vicaryi’ (Ligustrum) are large deciduous shrubs with a fountain-like shape. These multi-stemmed shrubs have light green leaves that grow along the entire length of each stem. White flower panicles full of fragrant flowers bloom in spring. Small berries take the place of the flowers.

Golden Privet prefers average fertility, dry to medium moisture, well drained soils in full sun to part shade. They are somewhat tolerant of drought once established.

Golden Privet are popular choices as informal hedges or accent pieces near structures because of the soft green foliage. When young they can create low hedges which eventually grow to create a dense privacy border.

Description

Golden Privet 'Vicaryi' Characteristics

Golden Privet 'Vicaryi' are agreeable hedges for most gardens and yards. The foliage is dense, but soft to the touch. Butterflies and bees are attracted to the fragrant white flower panicles. Once insects pollinate the flowers and berries emerge, birds can be frequent visitors.

There are few insect or disease issues that are threatening to 'Vicaryi'. Regular pruning can damage these shrubs, reducing the brilliance of the foliage color and is not recommended.
