Description

Barberry 'Rose Glow' Characteristics

Barberry 'Rose Glow' are vibrant thorn bushes that are popular in the Pittsburgh area. The red and purple leaves stand out amongst other green shrubs. In spring, small yellow flowers bloom that give way to tiny fruits. The fruits are edible but can be difficult to harvest due to the thorns. Birds are fond of the fruit and are common visitors.

'Rose Glow' can propagate by several means and may become invasive. The body of the shrub grows via creeping roots. Birds eat the small fruits that replace the flowers and distribute the seeds inside. The branches may take root in spots that they touch the ground. Pruning branches that touch the ground and cutting back spreading roots is the best way to contain 'Rose Glow'

There are few serious disease or pest issues that disturb 'Rose Glow'. Leaf spot, root rot, wilt, alphids, and webworm are all possible.
