Japanese Flowering Cherry ‘Kanzan’ ( Prunus) are highly ornamental deciduous trees. They can grow to 30′ tall and equally as wide. They grow in “V” shapes or resemble vases. The stunning flowers cover the tree in spring before the arrival of leaves. The oval leaves are serrated and dark green. In fall, the leaves become yellow, orange, or bronze. .

‘Kanzan’ prefers fertile, moist, and well drain soils in full sun. The tree can survive in some shade, but flowering may be stunted. They require little pruning and only if branches are dead or damaged.

Japanese Flowering Cherry 'Kanzan' are striking ornamental trees. These trees are especially ornamental because they are double flowering. Double flowering plants produce flowers with extra petals or flowers within flowers. While called a cherry tree, 'Kanzan' do not produce fruit.

'Kanzan' can be short lived as there are many types of serious disease or pest issues. Diseases include leaf spot, die back, leaf curl, powdery mildew, root rot, and fireblight. Insect visitors include but are not limited to caterpillars, tent caterpillars, and Japanese beetles.
