There are multiple varieties of Weigela that are popular in the Pittsburgh climate. They required similar care and maintenance, but the appearances can differ.
'Wine and Rose' (pictured) may only grow to 5' tall and slightly wider. 'Wine and Rose' is popular for its plentiful flowers and merlot foliage. These cultivars have been awarded Plant Award gold medals in Pennsylvania.
'Variegated' may grow to 10' tall and 12' wide. In spring they bloom rose pink flowers. The foliage of this cultivar is variegated, meaning that individual leaves contain more than one color. These leaves are medium green on the inside with pale yellow edging.
