Smoketree 'Smokebush' Characteristics
Smoketree 'Smokebush' are unique ornamental trees with a smokey appearance. In spring, small yellow flowers bloom. Spent flowers are replaced with clusters of long purple hairs that persist throughout summer. The hairs are the main ornamental feature of these shrubs. However, interest persists into fall with brilliant autumn leaf colors of yellows, reds, and purples.
'Smokebush' are resistant to most lethal insects or plagues. Leaf spot, rust, and verticillium wilt are possible. Some pruning is required for blooming to occur. Pruning should be done in early spring and should just be enough to encourage new growth.
