Sugar Maple ‘Green Mountain’ (Acer saccharum) are medium sized, deciduous ornamental trees. They have a pyramidal shape and spectacular fall color. They are plentiful in the forests of New England and help to create the world-renowned New England autumn. The Sugar Maple leaf is displayed on Canada’s flag.

‘Green Mountain’ prefer medium moisture soils in full sun to part shade.  These trees are not particularly city or pollution hardy and should be located away from road salt and structures.

‘Green Mountain’ are beautiful additions to a landscape when installed singularly or massed in groups. When massed in naturalized areas, autumn colors are worthy of framed photographs. These large and dense trees are perfect for shade or privacy between large yards or parks.

Sugar Maple 'Green Mountain' Characteristics

Sugar Maple 'Green Mountain' are beautifully filled out maple trees with fall colors that can range from orange, to yellow, and bright red, There can be significant color variant among individuals .The flat lobed leaves grow to about 8" wide. These maples can be harvested for their maple syrup.

While Sugar Maple have some disease and blight issues, 'Green Mountain' are noted for their resistance to pests and leaf scorch. Verticillium wilt, cankers, borers and scale some of the occasional visitors. Blight or pests are rarely fatal for Sugar Maples.
