Description
Witch Hazel 'Arnold Promise' Characteristics
Witch Hazel 'Arnold Promise' are tall shrubs with spindly yellow flowers that bloom from winter to early spring. The flowers are highly fragrant, giving off a sweet aroma. As the flowers stop blooming, broad green foliage covers the shrub. With fall, the foliage also turns yellow bringing beautiful multiseason interest.
These are low maintenance shrubs that are easy to care for if given the right conditions. Soils should never dry out but should be well drained. It is important to remove basal shoots which propagate the shrubs as these are grafted plants. Pruning is optional, but helps to control the shape and size of the plant.
Caterpillars and Japanese beetles find the foliage attractive, but these plants are quite resistant to deer. Powdery mildew, and leaf spots may occur. Root rot is likely if soils are not well drained.
