Rose of Sharon | Plant Profile

Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) are popular large ornamental shrubs. They are multi-stemmed and vase forming. Soft pink flowers with red centers bloom from June to October. Medium green leaves with multiple lobes are also ornamentally attractive.

Rose of Sharon prefers fertile, medium moisture, well drained soils in full sun to part shade. They can be tolerant of deer, drought, and infertile soils. They do not do well in urban pollution. Pruning should be done in spring to maintain a clean shape and encourage fresh blooms.

These large shrubs are perfect for entrances because of their long lived flowering season. They can be massed to create a showy hedge or privacy screen.
