Spirea ‘Snowmound’ (Spiraea nipponica) are compact deciduous shrubs that are native to Japan. This small variety of Spirea only grows to about 4′ tall and equally as wide. And abundance of white flowers populate the shrub all along the thin arching branches. The foliage is dark green with blue hues. Butterflies often frequent the plentiful flowers.

‘Snowmound’ prefers average fertility, medium moisture, well drained soils in full sun.

‘Snowmound’ can act as singular ornamental focal points. They can make extremely showy hedges or borders when aligned. They can also be located in large pollinator gardens as many beneficial insects are attracted to the flowers.

Spirea 'Snowmound' are showy small shrubs with plentiful spring flowers. These low maintenance shrubs can generally tolerate deer, a variety of soils, and erosion. Spent flowers should be removed to improve the appearance and encourage new growth. Prune to shape as desired. Pruning should be done in late winter as new flowers grow on new wood. Pruning too late can result in loss of bloom.

Disease or insect visitors are rarely harmful to 'Snowmound'. Leafspot, fireblight, and powdery mildew may appear. Root rot is possible in poorly drained soils.
