Description
Oriental Arborvitae Characteristics
Arborvitae 'Elegantissima' grows in moderately moist soil with full sun to part shade. The flat needles are a light yellowish color that darken to a green in maturity. They will maintain their needles in the winter though they will brown slightly.
These trees are often planted side-by-side to form a hedge or screen. They can also be planted as focal points in a landscape to bring color and texture through the winter months.
Some trimming my be required to maintain a tidy appearance, but avoid over-pruning as this may damage the tree. Some insects may be attracted to these trees but can be gotten rid of using pesticides or picking them off by hand.
'Elegantissima' are a "mid-size" Thuja variety, growing large and wide enough to provide green screens without reaching the massive heights (30+ feet) of 'Green Giant' arbs. This makes them ideal for urban settings where privacy is desired but size can become a limitation.
